Wellgate Community Farm exists as a focus for community, creating an opportunity for people to grow, make a positive contribution and promote social cohesion. Committed to providing a safe, inclusive place for individuals and groups to develop emotionally, socially, physically and spiritually within a working farm environment through opportunities, including:

Education

The Farm provides both educational visits on site and a mobile service bringing the Farm to you. Visits can be tailored to support the groups learning goals within the National Curriculum whilst being an exciting and fun experience for people of all ages and abilities.

The Farm's Hatch Packs provide all the support and equipment you will need to hatch and look after chicks or ducklings in a classroom or other suitable space.

Training

Hands On Project

Wellgate Community Farm works in partnership with Lambourne End Outdoor Centre to offer young people practical hands on environments, to focus on obtaining accredited vocational qualifications in animal care and land-based activities.

Alongside this we nurture each individual’s self esteem so they have the confidence and social development to further their progression either back in school, in training or employment and within their communities.

This opportunity is open to all, however, young people with learning difficulties, challenging behaviour or those struggling to cope in mainstream education may find the unique learning environment of particular advantage.

Stepping Stones - Tailored Experiences for School Groups

Groups of students can attend our working farm to engage in specialist educational activity sessions. We provide an enjoyable and engaging programme that helps those with additional needs, low in confidence or self esteem or who are struggling in the classroom,  to get involved and re-engage with education.

Young Farmers Club

For young people aged 8-15 our weekend club provides a great opportunity for young people to get involved in caring for the wide range of animals at the farm whilst making new friends.

Work Experience

The Farm provides two weeks work experience for year 10/11 school pupils, pupils with special educational needs and longer term placements for college students.

Therapy

Visits to Care Settings

The Farm can provide a fully interactive therapeutic animal interaction expereience that is an enjoyable and beneficial day for all. Our mobile farm team can bring a selection of farm animals to a care setting or open space for a safe and fully supervised petting session. These visits can help to rekindle old memories, provide talking points and an entertaining sociable event.

Recreation

Volunteering

Set up by volunteers in 1982, volunteering remains at the heart of the Farm both as a means to exisit and a reason to. There are many different ways to volunteer at Wellgate that will cater to most interests, ages and abilities. If you have time to spare you could help with the animals, in the garden, with maintenance and administration.
